REFLECTION 1b

You probably haven’t heard of Beatrice Martin. Beatrice Martin is a songwriter and a musician with a beautiful voice. She has won several awards and I think she deserves to be recognized more. Beatrice Martin was born in 1989, in Canada.
                                                                                                         She started to play the piano when she was only three years old. At the age of nine she was accepted to the Conservatiorie de musique du Quebec a Montreal where she studied for five years. At the age of nineteen she released her first album called “coeur de pirate” which is also the name of her band. She has won several awards up until now and released some more albums. Altogether she has sold over one million albums. Although, her fame is not that spread she has a very unique style, very unique personality. She even lives in an ordinary flat. Marin is not one of those chart singers whose melodies and rhythms are so clone that you cannot distinguish one from the other. She doesn’t have to take of her shirt in order to get eminent either. Right now she is married and recently got a child with her husband Alex. Why I vote for Martin is because she is an ordinary musician who doesn’t make a lot of fuss about her. She loves music, loves what she does and does it in a humble way. That is what makes her special and lovable.

Reflection task 1a
Hello everyone! My name is Miki and I’m 19 years old. I am from Germany but I have grown up in Turkey. Now I am studying in Ankara at METU. I am in the English language department. It is my first semester and it is very exciting. The classes are interesting and I have made some new friends. However, I am still adjusting to cooking, washing, cleaning since I am living together with two friends of mine. It sounds boring I know but beside school and house work I have a life too. I go to church on Sundays and we are going to take dancing courses with some of my friends. I love to make music, I used to take piano lessons. Unfortunately I don’t have a piano anymore but I have got myself a guitar which is very fun too. Also I love to sing, not only under the shower but I do write some songs myself. I am very passionate about these two. I love to read all sorts of books and I love to meet new people.  Travelling of course should be mentioned too!! I was in several countries and cities until now. I was in Germany last year to take a break from school and to get to know another country. It was very interesting and fun. I learned a lot. Now you all know me a little and I hope too hear from you very soon! I would love to meet you!.

FLE 133 CONTEXTUAL GRAMMAR EXERCISES ON PARALLELISM

First Task;

Our beagle loves to hunt.  When someone opens the back door for her, she barrels down porch steps into the yard. Then she runs back and forth across the lawn in ecstasy.  Her nose cruises the wet grass for smells; smells of cats, of rabbits, and of humans to detect them. She sniffs and spins her tail in quick circles. First it spins clockwise, then it spins counterclockwise.  These two activities, sniffing and spinning, always occur together. They seem to propel her along.

Second Task;

The Government Printing Office in Washington D.C., is a source of useful information. Unfortunately, only a few people know about it.  It is the official publishing house for the federal government, which publishes pamphlets and books on a vast number of subjects.  These range from the dangers of X-rays, from home TV sets to the identification of mushrooms.  About 27,000 publications are offered through the Superintendent of Documents.  Many of them are inexpensive and some of them aren’t even charged!

 Third Task;

The man who reaped America’s first fortune was John Jacob Astor. He was a German immigrant, who made his initial money through trading Indian furs. Although Astor was lowborn, uneducated and never learned to speak English properly, he carried on his business to the end in an accent. His accent was redolent of the Hamburg gutters.
